A Rare Case of Cerebral Sinovenous Thrombosis Associ at ed with MTHFR A1298C and C677T Mutations

چکیده
Neonatal cerebral sinovenous thrombosis (CSVT) is a rare disease with severe neu rological sequelae. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is a key enzyme in the folate cycle, and mutations in MTHFR are associated with vascular diseases. Here, we report the case of a newborn with MTHFR mutationassociated CSVT. Analysis of MTHFR in the patient detected heterozygous C677T (677CT) and A1298C (1298AC) mutations. Analysis of MTHFR in the patient's mother did not detect a C677T (677CC) mutation but detected a homozygous A1298C (1298CC) mutation. Our results suggest that the presence of heterozygous MTHFR C677T and A1298C mutations affect thrombophilic activity in the neonate, resulting in the development of refractory seizure and CSVT. Moreover, presence of the homozygous MTHFR A1298C mutation in the patient's mother, who did not show any symptoms associat ed with thrombophilic activity, and conditions during gestation may have affected the patient's condition.

Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase Polymorphisms in Iranian Patients with Glanzmann’s Thrombasthenia
Background: The most common polymorphisms identified in the Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene, C677T and A1298C lead to defective activity of this enzyme and increase the risk of venous and arterial thrombosis. There are limited investigations regarding the effects of thrombogenic polymorphisms on the clinical phenotypes of rare hereditary hemorrhagic disorders like Glanzmann's t...

Background: Factor V Leiden, Prothrombin gene (G20210A) and MTHFR (C677T) polymorphism are the main biomarkers for evaluation of tendency for venous thromboembolism. We aimed to investigate the frequency of mutations in factor V Leiden, Prothrombin G20210A and MTHFR C677T and identify the genetic status for these mutations in patients with venous thrombosis. Methods: This study was carried out...
متن کاملCommon Mutations of the Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) Gene in Non-Syndromic Cleft Lips and Palates Children in North-West of Iran
Introduction: Cleft lips and cleft palates are common congenital abnormalities in children. Various chromosomal loci have been suggested to be responsible the development of these abnormalities. The present study was carried out to investigate the association between the suspected genes (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase [MTHFR] A1298C and C677T) that might contribute into the etiology of the...

Background To assess whether the C677T and A1298C mutations in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHER) gene are associated with recurrent abortion (RA), we determined the frequencies of the T677 and C1298 mutations in patients and controls. MaterialsAndMethods Mutations were determined by a RFLP-PCR method in 53 patients and 61 matched controls. Results The frequencies of T alleles were...

Background: The association between Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase polymorphism and Coronary Artery diseases risk has been both confirmed and refuted in a number of published studies. The aim of this study was to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms of MTHFR (C677T, A1298C) contributed to the development of myocardial infarction (MI). Materials and Methods: The present case-contro...
